Where do you want to go?

Assignment Background

Previously, we created a User Research Plan to mimic the UX Research Process. In the next lecture, we were taught three key takeaways before conducting User Interviews.

  1. Curate who you will interview.

  2. Ask as many open ended questions as possible.

  3. Align interview questions with the problem.

Failure to do so results in expensive losses and setbacks for the product because, UX Research involved high costs and is time consuming. In order to prevent this, we were taught how to create a screener guide and user interview guide.

Assignment Task

After the lecture, we were tasked with creating our own Screener Guide and User Interview Guide and involved drafting:

  • User Interview purpose

  • Screener questions

  • Interview script for two user types we previously identified

    • Introduction

    • Questions

    • Conclusion

What was a difficult challenge you faced during the assignment?

I found it surprising how difficult it was to form screener questions. Assignments are intended to mimic the real world UX Research process, so it was very stressful to draft questions to interview the right user type. However, at the same time, I needed to draft questions that were too constraining to the point of NOT having the ideal user type.

Feedback and Learnings

As I progressed later into the courses, I found better methods of finding and creating problem statements such as: heuristic analysis, cognitive walkthroughs, or creating affinity diagrams through user reviews.
